The Plymouth Food Pantry has a very interesting, different and fun new volunteer opportunity coming up in the fall...
They are looking for people to help out with The Sweetheart Ball, their single largest fund-raising event of the year. If you'd like to be behind the scenes this fall, and help them put together this event, they have something for everyone to help with. You don't need any prior experience, just a willingness to help out; that is how they all started.
A little background on the Sweetheart Ball:
The Sweetheart Ball began six years ago as a collaborative effort between the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and the Plymouth Food Pantry to raise funds and elicit awareness for the Pantry. The Sweetheart Ball to date has raised over $50,000 to support the work done through the Pantry. The needs of the small pantry have increased as the number of members of our community who began relying on the pantry to help feed their families continue to grow. We currently serve 425 people in Plymouth/Terryville.
Jeanine Audette and Donna Borysewicz envisioned an opportunity to bring the community together for an event that could generate significant funds to help keep the shelves of the pantry stocked. The business community generously responded and contributed their resources to support such a great cause. As the Ball has evolved the community support has been remarkable. Heidi Caron came forward to chair the silent auction portion of the evening and her efforts have created an outstanding auction.
The Sweetheart Ball Comittee meets approximately once a month from September until February. Meeting times are scheduled to accomodate volunteers' work schedules: usually after 5 on weeknights. Please feel free to contact the pantry with any questions you may have.
