2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the return of Dorence Atwater, Plymouth's Civil War hero. Atwater survived the infamous Confederate prison camp at Andersonville, GA. He smuggled out the list of 13,000 Union soldiers who died there so families could find out what happened to their loved ones.
Please help us celebrate Dorence Atwater Day! The event will be at Baldwin Park in Terryville. There will be a rededication of the Atwater monument, the unveiling of two new interpretive signs, Civil War reenactors, living history demonstrations, presentations about Civil War medicine, and Civil War music. Sponsored by the Plymouth Historical Society and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.
The Plymouth Historical Society needs your help to restore the Dorence Atwater monument at Baldwin Park and install a new commemorative sign. For a donation of $50, you can choose a name to be placed on a plaque at the monument. Be a part of Plymouth's history!
