Pneumonia Vaccines
Free pneumonia vaccines are available for senior citizens who have not received the vaccine. Pneumococcal disease is a serious disease that causes much sickness and death. In fact, pneumococcal disease kills more people in the United States each year than all other vaccine-preventable diseases combined.  Healthy Feet Services for the elderly |
This clinic fills up quickly so call for an appointment quickly, or to be put on the waiting list for upcoming clinics.
Plymouth Public Health, in cooperation with the North Central Area Agency on Aging (NCAAA) is offering podiatric services to the elderly. Any senior citizen who is a resident of Plymouth, Terryville, or Pequabuck may be eligible for the service. A podiatric doctor will provide a visual examination of the feet to assess for any signs of fungus or infection, improperly fitting footwear, injury, or any common foot problems such as corns, calluses, or blisters. Toenail clipping and minor foot problems will be addressed.
The clinics are held every other month. Please call Plymouth Public Health at 585-4028 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

The Human Services Department works to promote and assist individuals and families who have insufficient income and/or assets to meet their essential needs. Residents experiencing hardship because of temporary unemployment or illness are encouraged to seek assistance at the address above or to call the phone number above. |
The Town of Plymouth Human Services Department instituted a program called "Small Wonders" for the Town of Plymouth children. Any donation made for our children will go into the Small Wonders Annual trust fund. The trust fund will be used for helping children with their first day of school, Holiday gifts, and other special services as outlined in the trust fund procedure. The goals of the program are to achieve an effective efficient and systematic delivery of resources, and to propose responsive and reasonable means whereby the needs of children are met.

Birthday Wishes Program
This program delivers a birthday gift and a "party bag" which includes cake mix and candles to children up to age 6.

Holiday Wish List
As the first children's program initiated by the Human Services Department, the Small Wonders Holiday Wish List Program helps provide many families who are experiencing hardships with a joyous holiday as their children's wish lists are filled by the generosity of the community.
This is your chance to touch a child's life. It is the true expression of community.
Back to School
The Plymouth Human Services Back to School Program assists parents and children in our community who are in need of a fresh start as they begin the school year.
How does it work?
- Children are selected to participate on the basis of need. Middle School and High School age children are targeted as they appear to be the most difficult group to transition and feel accepted by their peers. Clothing and school supplies are collected by the sponsors and delivered to our office the first week of August to be distributed to the parents.

Effectiveness has been greatly improved in the past years due to the cooperation of the schools, BCO, and state family assistance office.
Plymouth Friendly Shopper and Friendly Visitor
Plymouth Elders and disabled adults - Do you need help?
The Plymouth Human Services Department in cooperation with Breakthrough to the Aging has a Friendly Shopper and Friendly Visitor programs for resident seniors. If you are disabled or a senior resident, our friendly shopper volunteers can assist you with your grocery shopping. Friendly visitors provide companionship and friendship to people who are essentially homebound and otherwise isolated through weekly home visits.
If you or someone you know may benefit from either of these programs, please call the Plymouth Human Services Department Monday through Friday, 8:00 - 4:00 p.m. at 585-4028 and we will do our best to match you up with a compatible volunteer who would enjoy spending time with you!

Cell phones for soldiers

Donate your cell phone with the attached battery and any accessories in any condition. The cell phones are recycled for cash and the proceeds are used to buy prepaid calling cards for our soldiers serving in the Middle East.

Cell Phones for Seniors
Plymouth Human Services is sponsoring Cell Phones for Seniors. We are accepting used cell phones with battery charger in good condition that will be distributed to senior residents free of charge. The purpose of these phones is to access 911 in an emergency. Drop off sites for donations of phones are: Plymouth Town Hall, the Terryville Public Library, the Plymouth Police Department and the Plymouth Human Services Department. Mission Statement
The Town of Plymouth foresees a Human Service Commission for citizens who are seniors, veterans, handicapped, or citizens who have other human resource needs is necessary to advise on the development, implementation and coordination of the town's resources for such citizens' programs, policies, and activities.
The Town of Plymouth endorses the policy that no qualified person shall, on the basis of age, sex ethnic or religious background, political affiliation, race or handicapping condition, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program, activity, or personnel matter.
The global goals of the Commission are to achieve an effective, efficient, and systematic delivery of public citizens' resources, and to propose responsive and reasonable means whereby the needs of seniors, veterans, handicapped or citizens who have other human resources needs are met.
